7:45-8:00am – Drop-Off & Breakfast: Students enter the school from the drop-off loop, greet Principal Brucz, offer him a handshake, high five, or hug, then wash their hands, and sit down to eat a free, healthy breakfast.
8:00am – School Day Starts for ECE – 5th grade
8:15am – Morning Circle and Social Emotional Learning Block: Meleny joins her Crew for a community building morning circle driven by the Random Acts of Kindness and Peace Circles social-emotional curriculum, embedded character instruction.
9:00am-11:15am – Reading & Writing: Meleny builds strong literacy foundations through engaging read-alouds, Guided Reading and Reading Mastery groups differentiated by reading level, literacy centers, and Lucy Calkins writing workshop.
11:15am – Recess: Meleny engages in unstructured play in the physical activity spaces; research shows if students play before they go to lunch, they will focus on their food and eat more!
11:45am – Lunch: Meleny chooses a protein and grain rich main lunch and has her choice of at least two fruits and two vegetables from the daily salad bar.
12:15pm – Math: Meleny builds her understanding of numbers, equations, and problem-solving through the Singapore Math curriculum. Meleny’s peers and she discover and present multiple methods for problem solving rigorous, real-world math problems.
1:15pm – Physical Education: Meleny helps moves her body to help grow her mind through interactive, developmentally appropriate physical activities for both her gross motor and team-building skills.
1:45pm – Genius Hour & Snack: Along with her peers, Meleny participates in standards and student driven discovery as part of the ‘How Does Our Garden Grow’ project. This project-based unit integrates science, literacy, social studies, math and health and wellness.
2:15pm – English Language Development and Literacy Intervention: Meleny receives an extension of data-driven instruction.
3:15pm – Choice Time & COB (clean-up, organize, and backpacks) – Meleny helps her peers prepared the classroom for the next day of learning and gets ready for dismissal.
3:30pm – School Day Ends: Meleny goes home to spend time with her family — she plays, shares what she has learned, eats a healthy snack. and reads for at least 20 minutes per day.
