Academy 360 will use Avenues English Language Acquisition program. Avenues is proven to lead to demonstrable results amongst Elementary ELL’s. Students requiring a LIEP will receive English Language Development instruction for one hour each day during the Differentiation Block. The program includes interim assessments, which will be conducted each six weeks on the school’s assessment cycle, and used in conjunction with MAPS, CELA, and TCAP data to monitor student growth. Fifteen of the daily 60 minutes will be devoted to survival and content vocabulary study through word lists developed in partnership with the regular classroom teacher to prepare ELL students for success across the core subject areas. The remaining 45 minutes will be devoted to reading and writing English development via Avenues. In-class differentiation, multi-modal instruction, buddies/small group structures, and modified curriculum will also support ELL learning.
