Third Grade Teacher

Chris is a first-generation Filipino American. After spending 18 years in biotechnology, higher education, and nonprofit organizations, she transitioned into elementary education, where she has taught 3rd grade Math, 4th grade Math, and 5th grade ELA in East Oakland and Vallejo, California. Chris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, a Master’s degree in Leadership Studies, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education and Teaching, and a certificate in Restorative Justice Facilitation.
Chris believes learning is rooted in relationships and that every child grows at their own pace. She strives to build a classroom grounded in belonging, student voice, accountability, and curiosity, where students feel safe enough to bravely take risks, think critically, and learn from one another. She believes students come to school with valuable knowledge and experiences and that teaching is about helping them build on what they already know while empowering them to become confident, curious, and compassionate members of their communities and lifelong learners.
Having lived in three countries and four states, Chris enjoys learning from different communities and bringing diverse perspectives into her classroom. She recently relocated to Colorado to be closer to family and is excited to become part of the Academy 360 community. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys hiking, propagating succulents, getting her hands dirty in the garden, and crocheting gifts for friends and family.
